flaut'O . new scores . jeroen malaise . 'BlickFeld'

for a few years now, i've been wanting to have new scores written for flute. as for all things in life, one sometimes has to wait till the right moment shows up. so, when just before last summer several composers contacted me to ask whether i would be interested if they wrote a new piece for flute, i was of course happy and honoured and decided to start this track i have been wanting to do for so long.

'flaut'O' is the track name for the collection of new pieces ('concertos') for flute written for me (and my ensemble zvezdoliki). main link between all of them is 'oriana', a nickname for queen elizabeth I. 'the triumphs of oriana' were a collection of madrigals written in honour of queen elizabeth and collected by thomas morley in 1601.

as linking past, present and future has always been one of my interests, i choose to name the project 'flaut'O', a contraction of 'flauto' and 'oriana'. main idea is to get composers from now inspired by that beautiful collection of madrigals from 1601. 

jeroen malaise, pianist/harpsichordist/composer living in antwerp, member of zvezdoliki and studying composition with wim henderickx and luc van hove , was one of the first composers that contacted me. after talking a bit, jeroen got enthousiastic about this idea and started to write : he named his composition 'BlickFeld'. 

about 'BlickFeld', jeroen has written a little intro :

'BlickFeld' is going to be a composition for Oriana Dierinck and Zvezdoliki with flute, violin, cello and piano. It consists of imaginary, dreamy sets being  interrupted by more rhythmic and abrupt moments. It is an interaction between a spectator, his environment and his perception of environment.  In the same time also an interaction between audience and the space where the music is performed.  "
